A River Runs Through It

image

I bleed
When I can’t think straight
A gentle blade draws crimson
Peace trails down my arm
A tiny river
To wash away this pain
Then, another
One more, still
Mind drawn away
Paying attention to the sting
Glistening silver catches the light
As blade meets skin
Meets flesh
Over and over again
Precious reprieve
