the dreamer and the taker

dark

there came a time when you spoke to me of your desires

whispers in the night fell from your lips like raindrops

i gathered them all, every one, into my right hand

to you, i extended my left

~

when the time came that you spoke to me of your dreams

i feasted upon them, as a child feasts upon cake

so sweet to the tooth were your words of hope

soft beneath my feet as i trod upon them, every one

~

and when moonbeams brought through my window

every need you ever had

i bathed in their silvery light

so velvety were they to the touch

how very little you had asked for

how precious little you would receive

~

off through time, we went, together

the dreamer of dreams and the taker

yet falling off the same cliff

who could have known

that only one would meet his maker
