Lonely Night

It’s lonely here

When night comes ’round and black velvet sky falls to earth

My eyes strain to see what lies beyond my window

But there is nothing to see on this darkest of nights

I’m restless and a bit unhinged, to be honest

I prepare for bed, same as always, then I lie down, engulfed in the only comfort that will find its way to my empty bed this night

I pull my comforter over my head and try to recall what it’s like to feel someone’s breath on my neck

As we lie, together, drifting off to peaceful dreams

Then I close my eyes and lose myself to memories of old loves and happier times
